About the MPS Weft Cutter Arm
The MPS Weft Cutter Arm (M3) is the arm that transmits motion to the weft cutter on the Van de Wiele MPS velvet loom. Movement from the loom drive passes through this arm to the cutter, so that the cutter opens and closes at the right moment in the cycle. Because it carries much of the load in the cutter area, maintenance teams usually track it as a separate item.
Play at the pivot and pin points makes the cutter close late and causes occasional uncut picks. If you hear a knock when moving it by hand, or see a crack on the arm, it is time to replace it. When fitting a new arm, also check the M15 MPS Weft Cutter Spring, as the two tend to wear together.
