About the Weft Cutter Shaft
The Weft Cutter Shaft (M9) is the shaft on which the weft cutter pivots or from which it takes its motion. The cutter arms work around this shaft, so a smooth shaft without play is what lets the cutter close at the same point on every pick. On velvet looms it is usually inspected together with the cutter arm and its bushings.
Scoring, wear marks or play in the seat make the cutter chatter, leave occasional picks uncut and give an irregular cut line. When replacing the shaft, check the arm attached to it as well; on MPS looms that is the M3 MPS Weft Cutter Arm. More options are listed in the Cutter Group. Clean and lubricate the seat so the new shaft runs freely.
