About the VME - VMM Selvedge Cutter Spring
The VME - VMM Selvedge Cutter Spring (M16) provides the return action of the selvedge cutter on Van de Wiele VME and VMM velvet looms. After every cut, the spring opens the selvedge cutter so it can trim the fabric edge again on the next pick. When the spring weakens, the cutter does not open fully or closes late, and the edge cut becomes irregular.
Occasional uncut ends at the selvedge, pulled edge yarns and a cutter that returns slowly when pushed by hand all point to the spring. If the cutting jaw is also worn, the M10 VMM - VME Selvedge Cutter can be replaced at the same time; the linkage is available as the M8 VME - VMM Selvedge Cutter Connection.
