About the VDW Rapier Head Female
The VDW Rapier Head Female (K7) sits at the tip of the female carbon on Van de Wiele velvet looms. It meets the male head in the centre of the shed, forming the point where the weft changes hands. Because it grips and releases the weft, a clean and even gripping area has a direct effect on insertion quality. The head can be replaced independently of the carbon body.
Reasons to check it include weft dropping at the transfer point, worn grooves or gripping surfaces, and yarn fluff building up in the head. After replacement, reset the transfer point against the male rapier head. Other rapier parts are listed on our Velvet Loom Parts page.

Why are the male and female heads sold under separate codes?
The two heads have different shapes and work from opposite sides of the shed, so you usually replace whichever side is worn. The male head is code K6.
Can yarn fluff in the head cause problems?
Yes, fluff in the gripping area can make the head hold the weft unevenly, so regular cleaning is recommended.
