About the VDW Rapier Head Male
The VDW Rapier Head Male (K6) fits on the tip of the male carbon rapier on Van de Wiele velvet looms and meets the female head in the middle of the shed, where the weft changes hands. Reliable weft transfer depends heavily on the condition of its gripping surfaces. As long as the carbon body is sound, swapping just the head gets the loom inserting weft again quickly.
Check the male rapier head when you see missed picks, weft ends released too early, burrs or impact marks on the head. After fitting a new head, recheck how it meets the female rapier head. If the body is also worn, the complete male rapier is often the more practical choice.
