About the VME - VMM Knife Cord Pulley
The B22 VME - VMM Knife Cord Pulley carries and guides the knife cord on Van de Wiele VME and VMM velvet looms. The cord runs through the groove of these pulleys as it pulls the slide holding the pile-cutting knife across the loom width. When the pulley turns freely and true, cord tension holds, the slide reverses without delay, and the pile between the two fabrics is cut evenly.
Signs to look for are play in the pulley bearing, a rustling or ticking noise as it turns, a polished wear track in the groove or the cord drifting sideways within it. A worn pulley will quickly wear a freshly fitted knife cord too. When replacing it, we also recommend checking the B23 VME - VMM knife cord drum around which the cord runs.
