About the VME - VMM Knife Cord Drum
The B23 VME - VMM Knife Cord Drum is the drum on Van de Wiele VME and VMM velvet looms around which the knife cord is wound and through which motion is passed to the cord. As the drum turns, the cord pulls the slide carrying the pile-cutting knife across the loom one way and then back. A true drum surface and clean grooves let the cord run without slipping, which directly affects how evenly the pile between the two fabrics is cut.
Check the drum if you see worn grooves, the cord slipping on the drum, a slide that lags or play on the drum shaft. When replacing the drum, fitting new knife cord and inspecting the grooves of the B22 VME - VMM knife cord pulley is good practice. If the knife motion on your loom is belt-driven, look at the T10 1960 knife drive belt as well.
