About the MPS Needle Drive Gear Upper
The MPS Needle Drive Gear Upper (D8) sits in the upper stage of the needle take-up gear train on Van de Wiele MPS velvet looms. As one of the last links in the train it delivers motion to the take-up roller and helps pull the fabric forward in even steps. Being easier to reach during maintenance, the upper gear is often the first one technicians look at. Code D8 separates this position from D6 and D7.
Scoring on the tooth faces, a broken tooth or a loose hub on the upper gear will make take-up irregular and can leave line defects in the fabric. A loose hub is often heard as a click when the loom starts. If you are replacing it, check the MPS Needle Drive Gear at the start of the train as well, so all the wear is dealt with in one job.
