About the MPS Needle Drive Gear Middle
The MPS Needle Drive Gear Middle (D7) is the intermediate gear in the middle stage of the needle take-up gear train on Van de Wiele MPS velvet looms. It receives motion from the main take-up gear and passes it on to the upper stage, meshing on two sides, so the contact marks on both faces tell you a lot about its condition. Code D7 identifies this middle position and is ordered separately from D6 and D8.
Wear on the middle gear is usually noticed as a slight lag in fabric take-up, growing total backlash along the train and a polished band on one side of the teeth. If the idler bearing has play, the gear runs out of true and damages its partners, so check the bearing at the same time. The MPS Needle Drive Gear Upper can be inspected during the same strip-down.
D7 is a Göktürk-made equivalent for MPS looms. Send photos of the part and where it is mounted to WhatsApp 0541 951 44 10 for a quotation. If you plan to renew the whole take-up train, send D6, D7 and D8 in one message.
FAQ
Can I replace the middle gear on its own?
Yes, if its partners are sound, but check the backlash along the train and inspect the other gears too.
Why does the idler bearing matter?
Bearing play makes the gear run out of true and wears a new gear as well.
