About the MPS Needle Drive Gear
The MPS Needle Drive Gear (D6) is the main gear in the train that drives the needle take-up roller on Van de Wiele MPS velvet looms. The take-up roller pulls the woven fabric forward in steady steps, so even a little play in this gear can make the pick density fluctuate. D6 works together with the middle and upper take-up gears on the same line, each of which carries its own code in our catalogue.
Bands of dense and open picks repeating at regular intervals, a jerky feel during take-up or a broken tooth are all reasons to inspect D6. Whenever one gear is worn, check the rest of the train; the MPS Needle Drive Gear Middle is usually assessed during the same strip-down.
