About the Rapier Rear Block Outer
The Rapier Rear Block Outer (K14) sits on the outer side of the block arrangement at the rear of the rapier and works opposite the inner block to hold the rapier's rear end in place. The outer block limits the rapier's path from the outside and stops the connection from spreading sideways. On velvet looms, quiet and even rapier running depends partly on these blocks staying sound.
It is time to replace it if the face shows polished areas or hollows, the screw points have loosened, an edge has broken off, or there is a ticking at the rear of the rapier. What is the difference between the outer and inner blocks?
Both support the rapier's rear end from opposite sides: the outer block from the outside and the inner block (K12) from the inside.
What do polished marks on the block mean?
They usually show increased contact with the rapier and the start of wear, so the block should be checked closely.
