About the Rapier Block Plastic
The Rapier Block Plastic (K10) is the plastic-bodied version of the block that supports and guides the rapier at its contact points as it moves on velvet looms. The block helps keep the rapier on the right line in its track and limits direct rubbing against metal parts. Mills use the plastic type as an alternative to the fibre type, and the choice usually follows whatever is already fitted on the loom.
Grooving on the block face, cracked edges, the rapier drifting sideways in its track, or rubbing noises while it moves all point to a worn block. A worn block can also mark the rapier body, so it is best replaced without delay. For the fibre alternative, see the Rapier Block Fibre.
