About the Colour Selector Piston Short (type 2)
The Colour Selector Piston Short (type 2) (A3) is the second short piston type, used on colour selector versions with a different body design. It does the same job as A2: moving the relevant yarn channel into the selecting position when the pattern calls for it, then retracting after the pick. The mounting and body details differ between the two types, though, and forcing one into the other's seat can jam the channel. Knowing which selector type your velvet loom carries speeds up ordering.
Wear signs on type 2 are much the same: delayed selection, a rubbing noise in the channel, sticking on the return stroke and, as a result, repeated missed picks. When you remove the piston, look at the inside of its seat as well; scoring or burrs there will quickly give a new piston the same problem. If the body itself is damaged, consider the complete Colour Selector.
