About the Spoon Linkage Group
The Spoon Linkage Group (A5) is the set of linkage parts that connects the weft spoon to the loom frame and transmits its movement. On a velvet loom the weft spoon and weft fork work together to sense whether each pick has been completed correctly, and a linkage without play, set to the right position, is what keeps that sensing reliable. Code A5 covers the linkage parts as one group.
Once play develops in the linkage, the spoon swings irregularly: the loom may stop when no weft is missing, or fail to stop when one is. Loose pivot points, ovalised pin holes and slipping screw joints are the most common findings. When you replace the group, check the spoon too; a Weft Spoon with a worn surface should be changed together with the new linkage.
