About the Colour Selector Piston Short
The Colour Selector Piston Short (A2) is the short-type piston that pushes each yarn channel of the colour selector into the selecting position and pulls it back again. When the pattern calls for a colour change on the velvet loom, the matching piston moves and brings the yarn to where the rapier head can take it. Because this happens on every pick, pistons are among the hardest-working parts of the selector. Code A2 is the first short type in our catalogue; a second type for a different body design is listed as A3.
A worn piston moves late, sticks on its return stroke or develops side play in its channel. The result is more missed picks or wrong selections on the same colour. Dust and fibre stuck to the piston in a dirty mill environment can cause similar symptoms, so clean first and replace second.
