About the M4 Ground Module
The M4 Ground Module (MG2) controls the yarns that form the ground (base) structure of the fabric on an M4-type electronic jacquard. In velvet the pile is what you see, but the strength and stability of the cloth depend on the ground weave. The ground module selects the relevant yarns from the pattern data and passes the selection to the shed through the module cords. MG2 works in the same jacquard as the MG1 pile module but in a different role, and has its own code.
A ground module fault can appear as floats, slack areas or a weave defect repeating along one line in the base of the fabric. Because such faults can hide beneath the pile, they are sometimes noticed late; checking the back of the fabric regularly helps catch them early. To rule out a broken cord, check it together with the M4 Ground Module Cord Double Bearing.

Can the pile and ground modules be swapped?
No, they are defined for different roles and listed separately as MG1 and MG2.
How can I spot ground faults early?
