About the Gearbox Spacing Gear
The Gearbox Distance Gear (D2), known on the shop floor as the "balta" gear, transfers motion between the stages of the velvet loom gearbox. It runs in constant mesh with neighbouring gears, so how well it is centred and how clean its tooth profile is directly affects how smoothly and quietly the whole gear train turns. Under code D2 our catalogue lists the part used alongside the upper group, pinion and 27-31 gears in the same housing.
Problems with a distance gear usually show up as vibration that rises at a certain speed, a knocking sound as the teeth engage, and wear concentrated on one edge of the tooth face. When shaft or bearing play is letting the gear run off-axis, check the bearings first, otherwise a new gear will wear the same way. While the gearbox is open, also inspect the contact faces of the Gearbox Upper Group Gear.
D2 is manufactured by Göktürk as an equivalent part. Clear photos of your old gear let us match it correctly; message WhatsApp 0541 951 44 10 for a quotation. If you need other gears from the same gearbox, add their codes to your message.
FAQ
Are the "balta" gear and the distance gear the same part?
Yes, in our catalogue the D2 part goes by both names.
How can I tell which gear is making the noise?
Note the speed at which the noise increases, then check tooth faces and bearing play with the gearbox open; we can help from photos.
