About the Gearbox Upper Group Gear
The Gearbox Upper Group Gear (D1) sits in the upper stage of the velvet loom gearbox and passes drive from the main shaft down to the lower gear stages. Because it meshes under load on every revolution, even slight tooth damage is felt across the whole transmission. Typical signs of wear are a growing hum from the gearbox, noticeable backlash when the drive reverses and shiny metal particles in the oil.
