About the Weft Guide Rod
The Weft Guide Rod (A8) is the guide rod that leads the weft yarn from the supply side towards the insertion zone on a velvet loom. As the yarn runs over the rod its direction and angle are set, so it reaches the brake leaf and rapier head along a clean line. On looms working with several yarns it also helps keep them from crossing each other. Code A8 identifies this guide rod.
Because the yarn always runs over the same spot, fine grooves gradually wear into the rod surface. These grooves pinch the yarn, make tension fluctuate and can lead to fibre fuzzing or breaks. Lines you can see when you rotate the rod or hold it against the light are a clear sign of wear. The Weft Brake Leaf 0,25 mm, on the same yarn path, should be checked at the same time.
A8 is a Göktürk-made equivalent. Photos showing the rod as fitted and its end mountings help us identify the right part; message WhatsApp 0541 951 44 10 for a quotation. If several looms use the same rod, include the quantity.
FAQ
Can a groove in the guide rod cause yarn breaks?
Yes, a groove pinches the yarn and makes tension fluctuate, which can cause fuzzing and breaks.
Can I rotate the rod to use an unworn face?
If the mounting allows, it can be a temporary fix, but the lasting solution is replacing the rod.
