VME and VMM: shared parts list

Van de Wiele VME and VMM spare parts: which codes the two models share, which are model-specific, and how to plan spares for a mixed velvet loom park.

A part shared by VME and VMM: the complete selvedge cutter

For mills running both Van de Wiele VME and VMM velvet looms, there is good news: many parts in our catalogue are shared by the two models. That simplifies spare parts stock and lets one shelf serve both. Some parts, however, belong to one model only, and mixing them up leads to wrong orders. Based on the compatible-model data in our catalogue, this article splits VME and VMM spare parts into shared and model-specific codes. It is for maintenance managers and buyers, in Türkiye and in export markets.

VME and VMM spare parts: shared codes

The products below are listed for both Van de Wiele VME and VMM. Their names usually carry “VME - VMM”.

M10VMM - VME Selvedge CutterCutter Group
M16VME - VMM Selvedge Cutter SpringCutter Group
M21VME - VMM Mirror Flat TypeCutter Group

Most of the shared parts sit on the selvedge cutter side; the rest belong to the knife cord arrangement and the pressure roller.

Model-specific parts

Some parts are listed for one model only:

The pattern is worth noting: the selvedge cutter side is largely shared, while the weft cutter side has model-specific codes. Whenever you order weft cutter parts, always state the model.

Field note: Keep shared parts together on a shelf labelled “VME - VMM” and store model-specific parts in separate sections labelled by model. Weft cutter parts look alike, so this split cuts the risk of mistakes, especially on the night shift.

How shared parts affect stock planning

When both models run in the same mill, this approach works well:

  1. Treat shared codes as one pool. Because the same code serves both models, size spares for these parts on the combined number of looms.
  2. Plan model-specific codes separately. Size parts such as M1, M13 and M4 on the number of looms of that model only.
  3. Confirm general parts with a photo. For parts with no model record in the catalogue, such as knife cords, grinding stones and rapier blocks, confirm the fit against your current part.
  4. List consumables separately. Planning wear parts (selvedge cutters, springs, knife cord) apart from slower-moving parts (shafts, drums) keeps ordering regular.

How to confirm a shared part

Knowing a part is shared by both models does not guarantee it will behave the same on every loom; looms may have had different modifications over the years. So:

  • Give the part code and the loom model together.
  • If possible, send a photo of the part fitted on the loom.
  • Mention any modifications made to the loom.

Compared with MPS

VME and VMM share a lot, but MPS is a different story. The MPS selvedge cutters, weft cutter group, knife cord pulleys and some gears have their own codes. We compare MPS and VMM in a table in a separate article. All cutter parts are listed on the Cutter Group page.

Common mistakes with shared parts

Shared codes make life easier, but we see a few repeat mistakes:

  • Assuming the whole group is shared: the selvedge cutter side being shared does not mean the weft cutter side is too. Check every line by its code.
  • Trusting old labels: a shelf label written years ago may not reflect a later change. Update labels to catalogue codes.
  • Going by appearance only: two parts that look alike can have different mounting points. A photo of the part fitted on the loom is more reliable than a photo of the part alone.
  • Stocking for one model only: sizing shared parts on one model’s loom count leaves the shelf empty when the other model breaks down.

To avoid these, we suggest preparing your order list in three columns: code, model and quantity.

FAQ

Is there a difference between “VMM - VME” and “VME - VMM” in product names?

No. The order of the names differs, but both mean the part is used on both models.

Can I fit the VMM weft cutter group on a VME?

M1 is listed for VMM only. On the VME weft cutter side there is a model-specific arm (M4). We advise never ordering weft cutter parts without stating the model.

How do I know if an unlisted part is shared?

For parts without a model record, we confirm fit from photos. Send photos of the part from both looms and we will compare them.

To confirm which VME and VMM spare parts in your order are shared, send your parts list on WhatsApp to +90 541 951 44 10.

Send a photo of the part, we quote it

No part number needed. Send a photo and the loom model on WhatsApp.
