Spare part differences between MPS and VMM

MPS and VMM spare parts compared for Van de Wiele velvet looms: model-specific codes, shared parts and how to confirm the model before you order from abroad.

Van de Wiele MPS and VMM are both velvet looms from the same maker, but many of their spare parts are listed under separate catalogue codes. In mills running both models side by side, one of the most common purchasing mistakes is ordering a part for the wrong model. This article uses the compatible-model data in our catalogue to compare MPS and VMM spare parts group by group. It is written for maintenance managers and buyers running mixed loom parks, and for export customers who need to get the order right first time.

Why MPS and VMM spare part differences matter

Two parts doing the same job can have different mounting points, shapes or drive arrangements on different models. Even when they look alike, the wrong model’s part will either not fit or will fit and not work properly. When you order, the model matters as much as the part name.

The comparison below only covers products in our catalogue that carry a compatible-model record. For products without one, we confirm fit from a photo.

“No record in the catalogue” does not mean the model has no such part. It only means we do not list a model-specific code for it. If you need one, ask us with a photo.

What the table tells you

A few practical points stand out:

  1. Selvedge cutters: on MPS, right and left are separate codes. VMM uses a complete selvedge cutter shared with VME.
  2. Weft cutter group: each model has its own complete weft cutter group (M1 and M2), listed under separate catalogue codes; we confirm fit from a photo.
  3. Knife cord layout: MPS uses two separate knife cord pulley codes; VMM uses a pulley and drum shared with VME.
  4. Gears and warp: the model-specific gears and the warp cam in our catalogue are for MPS.

Field note: In a mixed loom park, split the spare parts shelf by model and write the part code on each shelf label. That simple habit prevents most night-shift mix-ups between two cutter groups that look alike.

Parts that serve both models

Some products in our catalogue have no model recorded and are listed as general parts, for example rapier blocks, knife cords, grinding stones and weft holders. We confirm whether these fit your loom from a photo of your current part. Carbon rapiers and rapier heads are listed for Van de Wiele velvet looms in general.

Confirming the model before you order

To cut the risk of receiving the wrong part, include:

  • Loom model (MPS, VMM or VME) and, if known, year of manufacture
  • The part code from our catalogue
  • A photo of the part fitted on the loom
  • If one order covers several models, which loom each line is for

All velvet loom parts are on the Velvet Loom Parts page; cutter parts are on the Cutter Group page.

FAQ

Can I fit an MPS selvedge cutter on a VMM?

Our catalogue lists separate right and left selvedge cutters for MPS and a complete selvedge cutter shared by VME and VMM, under separate codes; we confirm fit from a photo.

Are VMM and VME parts the same?

Many parts are shared and carry “VME - VMM” in their name. There are model-specific ones too, such as the weft cutter group and some diamonds. We cover this in a separate article.

What if I do not know the part code?

Send photos of the part and the loom. Seeing the model and the mounting point lets us find the right code.

To make sure your MPS or VMM spare parts order matches your loom, send photos of the parts on WhatsApp to +90 541 951 44 10.

Send a photo of the part, we quote it

No part number needed. Send a photo and the loom model on WhatsApp.
