About the Knife Cord Oiled 4 mm
The B9 Knife Cord Oiled 4 mm is the oil-impregnated, 4 mm diameter cord that pulls the knife slide on a velvet loom. The oil in the cord is there to reduce friction as it runs over the pulleys and drums. At 4 mm it is the thinnest size in the range, meant for looms whose pulley grooves suit this diameter. Because the cord sets the back-and-forth motion of the pile-cutting knife between the two fabrics, its condition shows directly in cut quality.
On oiled cord, look for a surface that has dried out and stiffened, thin spots, marks left on the pulleys or a slide that hesitates at each reversal. If you are switching from dry to oiled cord, keep the cord path clean so oil does not reach the fabric. The dry version of the same size is B6 Knife Cord Dry 4 mm.
