About the Knife Cord Dry 6 mm
The B8 Knife Cord Dry 6 mm is the heaviest size in the dry knife cord range. On a velvet loom it pulls the slide that carries the pile-cutting knife across the full width. Its fuller cross-section is intended for systems whose pulley grooves are made for 6 mm cord. The cord runs over the drums and pulleys, carrying the knife in both directions, and as a dry cord it brings no oil towards the fabric.
A thick cord seated fully in its groove gives a steady slide stroke, whereas a thinner cord in the same groove moves sideways. So choose 6 mm only if the cord you remove is 6 mm. FAQ
Is 6 mm cord better for every loom because it is thicker?
No. The right size is the one the pulley grooves are made for; a thicker cord that does not fit the groove will not seat and will disturb the slide motion.
Can dry cord stain the fabric?
Because dry cord carries no oil, it has an advantage where oil marks are a concern. The pulleys and drums along the cord path should still be kept clean.
