About the Knife Cord Oiled 6 mm
The B11 Knife Cord Oiled 6 mm is the largest size in the oiled knife cord range. On a velvet loom it pulls the knife slide through the bed so that the pile-cutting knife travels between the two fabrics. The oil-impregnated surface is meant to help this heavier cord pass through pulley and drum grooves. It is used where the pulley grooves are made for 6 mm cord and should sit in them without play.
A thick cord that fills its groove properly is the basis of a smooth slide stroke. Plan a change when the cord flattens, stiffens as it loses oil or frays at the slide attachment. The dry cord of the same size is B8 Knife Cord Dry 6 mm, and every cord option is listed in the Knife Group.

The diameter is the same; the difference is that the oiled cord is impregnated to reduce friction, while the dry cord carries no oil on its surface.

A flattened cord no longer seats fully in the groove and can make the slide motion jerky. Replacing the cord and checking the pulley grooves is recommended.
