About the Knife Cord Dry 5 mm
The B7 Knife Cord Dry 5 mm is the mid-size cord in the dry range, used on velvet looms to pull the knife slide through the knife bed. It takes motion from the drive drum and carries it over the pulleys to the slide, so the pile-cutting knife runs back and forth between the two fabrics at an even pace. Sitting between the 4 mm and 6 mm sizes, it has no oil on its surface.
Check the cord when it looks glazed, when fibres start to open, when tension drops or when the slide moves with a jerk. Changing diameter changes how the cord sits in the pulley groove, so match the size of the cord you take off. While replacing it, look at groove wear on pulleys such as the B22 VME - VMM knife cord pulley so the new cord runs smoothly.

How do I know which diameter I am using?
Measuring the cross-section of the removed cord is the most reliable way. If you cannot measure it, photograph it next to a ruler and we will confirm it with you.
Do the pulleys need changing with the cord?
Not always, but a pulley with a notched or sharp-edged groove will damage a new cord too. Always check the grooves when you change the cord.
