About the Round Grinding Stone

The B5 Round Grinding Stone sharpens the edge of the pile-cutting knife while a velvet loom is running. As the knife travels across the loom width, the grinding stones touch its edge and keep it keen, so the pile yarns between the two fabrics are cut cleanly instead of being dragged. The round form is meant for grinding units in which the stone rotates, and it is one of the regularly renewed consumables of the knife group.

When the stone wears unevenly or its surface glazes over, the knife is no longer sharpened properly. Frayed pile tips, long fibres left after cutting and a blade that dulls sooner than expected are the usual signs. Check the blade too when you change the stone, as a badly dulled blade may not recover with a new stone alone. Other stone types, such as the FI Grinding Stone, are listed in the same Knife Group.

The B5 stone is a Göktürk-made equivalent. Send a photo of the stone you are using and your loom model on WhatsApp +90 541 951 44 10; we will confirm the type and quote.

FAQ

When should the grinding stone be replaced?

Rather than a fixed interval, judge by the stone surface and cut quality, since it depends on loom speed and shift pattern. Uneven wear, glazing or frayed pile tips mean it is time to change.

Is the round stone the same as the FI, FII and FIII stones?

No, they are different stone types. Order the same designation that is fitted to your loom; if unsure, send us a photo of the stone.
