About the Knife Slide, Graphite Type
The B4 Knife Slide, graphite type, carries the pile-cutting knife and glides through the knife bed on graphite sliding surfaces. On a velvet loom the knife cord pulls the slide across the full width, and the slide keeps the knife on a single line so the pile yarns between the two fabrics are cut evenly. It has no rollers, pairs with the graphite bed, and can be replaced on its own while the bed stays in the loom.
As the graphite surface thins, the slide starts to move about inside the bed. Typical signs are doubled or uneven cut marks on the blade edge, fine lines across the pile and visibly irregular wear on the slide itself. Check the B2 graphite knife bed and the knife cord that pulls the slide at the same time.

FAQ
Can the graphite slide be changed without changing the bed?
Yes, if the bed surface is still sound the slide can be replaced alone. If the bed is worn too, renewing both gives a better result.
Does the B4 slide fit a roller bed?
No. The graphite slide pairs with the graphite bed; the roller system uses the B3 slide and the B1 bed.
