About the Knife Cord Oiled 5 mm
The B10 Knife Cord Oiled 5 mm is the middle size of the oiled knife cord range, driving the slide that carries the pile-cutting knife on a velvet loom. The oil worked into the cord is meant to give a smoother run through pulley and drum grooves. At 5 mm it sits between the 4 mm and 6 mm sizes, and the right choice depends on the diameter your pulley grooves are made for. The cord keeps the knife moving steadily across the loom width.
When cord tension drops, the slide arrives late at the reversal points and the pile cut becomes irregular. Replace the cord if you see cracking, opening fibres or a dried-out surface. At the same time, check the B23 VME - VMM knife cord drum and the pulley grooves for sharp edges; otherwise the new cord may wear quickly as well.
